Before anything is cut, we measure the span and ask the unglamorous question — what is this shelf actually going to hold? A few bottles in a shower niche is not the same job as a row of hardcovers in a living room, and the glass has to know the difference. Then we check the wall. Pre-war Bronx plaster, tiled bathroom walls, and modern stud partitions each want a different anchor, and a shelf is only ever as strong as the thing it’s bolted to.
